Tyronesha Miles is our “Her Timer of the Month” for October, 2024!
Tye wears many hats in her life as she works four jobs: Recovery Coach, Case Manager, Birth Doula, and U-Haul. While she is very busy with work, Her true passion is Gospel Music. “Gospel music matches the range of my voice and I can get the most out of it. I don’t want attention or to be famous. I want to sing for the glory of God.”
“As a child, I went to church and was interested in the theater so singing helped me gain confidence. I realized I had a voice and I loved to sing. I ran a church choir for seven years and that was amazing.” Tye is looking for a church where she can feel at home and not be judged for being who she is. “ I want a church to call my home. I have tried several churches in the area and found that people discussed the Bible while being judgmental or thinking there is only one way to worship. When I invited God into my life, I felt hands on my shoulders and knew God was there for me. I want to feel that true spiritual connection.”
Connection is what draws Tye to our Her Time Family. “Women sometimes have a hard time sticking together. Lots of times women are dragging on each other. Everyone wants control. That is not the case at Her Time. Her Time has all these women in one room supporting each other. Everyone is showing respect for each other. Everyone has an “I’m here to help you” attitude.” At one Her Time meeting we each received small cups with soil in them Then we planted seeds in our soil. It was such a simple act but it meant a lot. We were all growing things together and hoping for good results in the future”.
Tye’s Mother, Suprena, is her biggest influence. “She is AMAZING!. My Mom is my inspiration. I emulate her and I want to show up for my life the way she does for hers. She raised two kids alone, worked hard, and made something out of herself.” When Tye was incarcerated for ten years her family stood by her and supported her. “I had some very dark days when people were O.D.ing, and dying unnecessarily. I was losing friends. I was there for so long that I would see people come and go. Without my mother and family, I might not have made it home. I am so grateful for them.”
Tye has a younger brother and two half-sisters. “When my brother was born I had been an only child for 7 years. When I saw him I was just in love. He was a sweet, happy baby and I couldn’t stay away from him. Until he learned to talk then everything changed. I thought about sending him back!”
Recently Tye went to North Carolina to see Hezekiah Walker, a gospel singer who is famous for the choirs he assembles. He gives many people a chance to sing. “I went to sing for the choir. On the first day, I sang great and was dressed up like the others and I got a good response. The next day I decided to dress like myself and I was met with judgment and not welcomed.” She was discouraged by this and didn’t want to be a part of it. “God said, Come as you are! He loved all people no matter if they were dirty, tattered, or dressed up. He did not judge and welcomed all. I know that people push away and reject what they don’t understand. I get that. All people want to be accepted.”
While in North Carolina, Tye also had a chance to connect with her estranged Father. She was very anxious about reuniting with him. When they met she realized she was able to accept and forgive him. This brought her a newfound peace. “People need to learn to love all people.”
Tye spreads warmth and loving energy everywhere she goes along her path. When we hear her sing, we are all carried lighter along our way.
We asked Tyronesha a few questions:
Where would you like to travel: “Aruba. A friend was born there. She showed me photographs and it looked so beautiful. That’s where I wanna be. “
What is something people might not know about you? “I am extremely shy.”
What do you do to change the world? “ I try to leave my mark. I am transparent, genuine and pure. What you see with me is what you get. I am a loving person and I feel my interactions let people know someone cares about them. I genuinely love people and love showing it.”
What does Her Time mean to you? “ I love Her Time. Women are the ones who have to handle everything. The resources are not there for women after they return. Her Time helps us find our way. When we are all lovin’ on each other we help each other while it’s also helping you.”
